About UsOur History So Far..The North Shore Ballet Centre was first opened about 40 years ago in Chatswood on the Pacific Highway by Keitha Cahill nee Keitha Ross Munro a former dancer/stage manager from the Borovansky Ballet. Keitha approached a friend Margaret Walker to join her on this venture with the idea to supply dancewear to the students and teachers on Sydney's North Shore. At that time there were only three major supplies all based in the centre of the city of Sydney. They were of course the well known Salvios, Barries and Bloch. Keitha approached all the suppliers not wishing to promote one individual brand. The intention was to provide a shop allowing the dancer to be able to choose from all brands enabling them to have the best-suited product for their individual body type. This mantra still holds today. The NSBC started in a tiny one room above an Art shop and the first sale was a hair net! It has certainly grown enormously since then and at one stage had three shops based in Chatswood, Hornsby and Brookvale. Partners have come and gone however it is still very much a family business operated today by Peter Cahill, Keitha’s son. Chatswood is the only retail outlet now with a fine reputation of being a "true dancer’s shop". Generations have grown up being fitted with their first ballet shoes from the NSBC. The atmosphere of a "true ballet shop" has been maintained over the years with individual and caring attention to each customer.
Peter CahillPeter trained as a dancer in his youth. He attended NIDA's production course in the 1980's then worked extensively in London and Europe touring various shows. He returned to Australia to manage the family business in Chatswood originally for 6 months. He is still here today. He has developed a reputation throughout Sydney and NSW for correctly fitting all types of feet from tiny tots to baby boomers!
Sally CahillSally trained as a dancer leaving school to do her major RAD exams. Graduating from NIDA's Acting course in 1976 she has worked in all facets of theatre, film and television all over the world. Consistently working at the shop between professional acting jobs she now has taken over all the accounts and is making sure that all is smooth sailing! Keitha Cahill
